Green Activist Greta Thunberg’s Group Splits Over Her Antisemitism
Founded in 2018 by the Swedish environmentalist campaigner Ms. Greta Thunberg, “Fridays for Future” saw a fracture earlier this week after German and Swiss sections broke off due to Thunberg’s antisemitic rants.
A vocal climate change activist, Ms. Luisa Neubauer, in an interview for this week’s edition of Der Spiegel, stated, “Our full solidarity goes out to Jews worldwide, and we strongly condemn the terror of Hamas.”
Ms. Neubauer, who leads the German section of “Fridays for Future,” added that the German section would not interact with the rest of the Thunberg-managed group until she apologises for antisemitism.
Separately, in a statement issued last week, the group’s Swiss section broke with the messaging promoted by its international accounts.
“We denounce the Hamas attack on Israeli civilians,” the statement said.
On Oct. 20, Ms. Thunberg announced that the climate strikes were in “solidarity with Palestine and Gaza,” posting a photo on Instagram of herself holding a sign declaring “Stand With Gaza. ” Others in the picture brandished placards saying “Free Palestine,” “This Jew Stands With Palestine,” and “Climate Justice Now.”
Recent posts from the Thunberg-group-controlled accounts condemned Western media coverage of the Israel-Gaza conflict as “imperialist brainwashing” and have described Hamas terrorists as “martyrs.”
