Israel Is Building A $55 BILLION Canal Through Gaza!

By Billion Dollar Builds

As tensions in Israel continue to grow, news about plans for a controversial megaproject that has been around for decades has resurfaced. Israel’s plans to build a new canal to rival the Suez Canal has come to light. Well, it just so happens that Gaza is in the middle of the proposed path for the major second canal in the region. Join us today as we uncover the staggering details of this megaproject and explore the motives behind its construction.

Here’s what others had to say:

@NoamTheGOAT50
As an Israeli myself, I have never heard of this crap! But just one question, I lived in an area named Arava, the very far south of Israel, about 30 minutes north of Eilat. There are mountains between the Arava and the northern part of the Negev, how are the ships gonna pass through this? Just asking, no need for politics…

@IdanZ-x6y
Im israeli. This is the first time i heard about this plan. Im not aware or think that they starter building it.
The major problem is the Houthi’s that target ships on the way to the Mediterranean sea

@davidbroadfoot1864
293km is not “almost one third longer than 193km” (timestamp 3:50). It is more than half as long again … 51.8% longer to be exact.

@padmanabhanpadmanabhanpott8189
Bengurion canal is a wonderful project and a better economic benefit for not only Israel but the entire world.

@mudboy9762
From an engineering standpoint this canal is possible but not feasible. It would need around one hundred locks to pass the 2000 ft elevation between the Gulf of Eilat /Aqaba and the Mediterranean Sea. Those locks would require over 60 million gallons of water to be pumped from the sea to the top of the lock system each hour.
Edit: Double those figures for the dual canals proposed (200 locks and 120 million gallons per hour).

@sergiomardinefraulob9803
It seems Egypt could dig a parallel larger and deeper channel with a fraction of money and effort.

@peberdah
A rail link with containers terminals both side, can be created in 4 years, costing far less and bring 1 billion US a year at least.

@anonanon7278
Yemen’s current attacks on commercial shipping threaten the Suez Canal’s viability and would do the same to the Ben Gurion canal if it were to be built.

@Jeka655g
As southern Israeli i promise you this is just technically impossible because of random mountainous terrain.
But the idea is very cool and Israel probably should had gone for it if it was an option

@pingupenguin2474
A canal could go this route through tunnels so minimal water would be required as the canal remains at sea level. In the uk we have 200 yr old canals that do this. In pre motor days, when barges were usually pulled by horses, who clearly couldn’t manage the tunnels, men used to lie down on planks laid across the barge and ” walk” along the tunnel walls either side, to propel the barge forward !

@simonabboud5987
On paper it looks like a great project, but what about the 500 plus nuclear explosions required to finish in 5 years, what kind of fallout would that cause ?

@andrewwalton9700
Years ago there was an idea in Israel to replenish the Dead sea with a canal from the mediterranean but it was abandoned due to cost !

@yasserfaroukragheb6242
Egypt has already doubled and widened the Suez canal for all ships to pass

@chrystale888
Nooo, one canal goes in and the other canal goes out, it is being built to facilitate greater traffic.

@استاذدانيال
This is a grandiose “pipe dream”. IF IF IF Israel were to try to build this canal anywhere NEAR Gaza, let alone through it, the construction site would be a constant target of terrorist rocket fire. Even if the canal were actually built, it would continue to be subject to terrorist rockets. Who would want to work on a construction site when they would know that any day short and medium range rockets might land near them. And what shipping companies would want to risk their vessels in a canal that so easily makes them targets of terrorist rocket fire ? Just see how the Houthis have effectively closed the southern end of the Red Sea to shipping. How much more would vessels in a narrow canal be subjected to terrorist attacks. It’s foolish to even attempt this undertaking.

@sathiyanarayanadasarathan4964
A good proposal; this may improve the economy of the Region and beneficial for the world Trade.

@Donnnny2010
Canals could be used for irrigation as well for farmers around more arid regions

@ElHuaso89
This is to get rid of those tunnels used by Hamas because like we learned in Vietnam it’s very difficult to fight against an enemy that uses tunnels.
